Pilot Protocol Launches with $4.5M Seed Investment to Build Connective Infrastructure for Autonomous AI Agents
Software network startup Pilot Protocol emerges from stealth to establish an internet infrastructure layer for AI agents following a $4.5 million seed financing round.
News About Pilot Protocol
San Francisco-based technology startup Pilot Protocol announced its exit from stealth mode alongside securing $4.5 million in seed funding. The investment round was led by Version One Ventures, with participation from Precursor Ventures, Night Capital, Todd & Rahul Capital, and angel investors Lenny Rachitsky and Ben Tossell.
Led by Co-Founder and CEO Razvan Roman, the enterprise developed a specialized network layer that assigns unique addresses to AI agents. This system enables autonomous software programs to discover, verify, and communicate with one another directly without human setup.
The network already connects approximately 250,000 agents generating over two billion daily requests. Alongside the core connectivity layer, the platform includes a dedicated App Store designed for agent-to-agent tool integration, as well as an automated payment system that allows agents to earn and spend credits directly.
Significance of Pilot Protocol
The emergence of Pilot Protocol is significant because standard artificial intelligence models are typically built in isolation, running on individual servers without native mechanisms to interact with external agents. For example, instead of a human developer configuring custom API integrations between two separate scheduling and research agents, the agents can discover each other on the network and execute tasks autonomously.
By establishing a shared protocol layer, the platform addresses the logistical challenges of scaling autonomous software ecosystems. With commercial forecasts estimating substantial growth in agent-driven transactions over the coming years, having a standardized identity and communication framework allows developers to deploy interoperable AI tools.
Furthermore, the introduction of a dedicated App Store and native payment rails allows software tools to be discovered and adopted directly by AI agents rather than human end-users. This shift creates a distribution channel where automated programs evaluate, install, and transact for microservices independently.
Next Steps for Pilot Protocol
Following the capital raise, Pilot Protocol plans to allocate the $4.5 million seed funding toward expanding its engineering operations and accelerating protocol development. Development teams will focus on expanding security verification features for partner applications listed on the agent App Store.
The enterprise will also refine its agent-to-agent payment infrastructure to handle higher transaction throughput as developer adoption grows. Management plans to collaborate with external software partners to publish additional developer tools, establishing the platform as a foundational layer for autonomous digital commerce.
